Yes, it's true, Lena stops me in my tracks several times a day with the funny, intelligent, insightful thoughts she freely verbalizes with the courage we lose as adults to speak what is on our minds. Thankfully, as we grow older a filter forms so that we utter our words with poise but that filter can sometimes impose over censure on adults who speak not only with tact but also fear of judgement.
This post will be updated frequently with old and new thoughts Lena (and soon, Lucy) shares that make me smile, think and want to remember this precious innocent age. Some will include a background description to set this scene and I am sure some will stand alone.
- Lena and I are playing outside in the back yard.
LENA: Mom, I'm going to run.
ME: Alright, honey, go ahead.
Lena takes off sprinting, stops dead in her tracks about 8 steps out and returns to my side.
LENA: Mom, you forgot to say READY, SET, GO!
